Search engine optimisation

Our single administration page produces pure html pages, which are not only quicker
to download than .php or .asp pages, but are also easier to index by search engines
like Google.

But there's more to getting a good ranking in the search results than that.

Paragraph text, heading text, and alternative picture text for the visually impaired
are vitally important to search engines.

Stuff the first paragraph on each page with as many key words and phrases as possible
- that is, the words people are likely to type into a search engine when they're looking for
a site like yours. That first paragraph should summarise the whole page.

And the first paragraph on the home page should summarise the whole website
Don't make it too wordy, and avoid meaningless expressions like "excellent".

Key words are just as important in headings as they are in paragraphs, so make use of
both heading and paragraph formatting options in your administration page's
mini-wordprocessor.

And remember to type in alternative text for the visually impaired when you're inserting
pictures - this text too is used for indexing.

The website title and subtitle are of vital importance to the Google search engine, so
take special care to include good search words here - ones that will mark you out from
your competitors.

Finally, get as many inbound links as you can from high-quality, related websites - say,
specialist directories and forums. Avoid unrelated or poor-quality sites.

Reciprocal links are almost as good as inbound links for pushing up your position on
search results pages - use the "Insert HTML" button on the mini-wordprocessor's toolbar
to insert the other site's link code.
